Cisco Proprietary extensions to the legacy STP (802.1D) such as UplinkFast, BackboneFast, and PortFast are used in order to ________________.
provide faster port transition from Forwarding to Blocking mode to prevent loops on a switched network
enable the store-and-forward switching method on a Cisco Catalyst switch
reduce the STP convergence time after a link failure
provide faster frame switching
Cisco Proprietary extensions to the legacy STP (802.1D) such as UplinkFast, BackboneFast, and PortFast are used in order to speed up convergence time after a link failure. PortFast is a Spanning-Tree Protocol feature used to speed up convergence time on ports which are connected to a workstation by causing a port to enter the forwarding state instantly, bypassing the listening and learning state. Backbonefast allows for faster convergence time when an indirect link to root fails. BackboneFast immediately expires the max-age timer and the port goes into listening and learning states. With UplinkFast, when a bridge loses its root port, it is able to put its best alternate port directly into the forwarding mode.
