To configure a router for a static IP you first, plug your laptop into the active port of the modem and confirm an active internet connection. You need to input: IP address, subnet mask, default Gateway, and DNS address into your router. What is the best way to find this information?
search google for your IP, subnet, gateway, and DNS server
Call your Internet Service Provider and ask them
On the bottom of the router
run command "ipconfig /all" when laptop is connected to the modem
Static IP information comes from your ISP. If you dont have the information handy from your ISP, make them give you the information.
The bottom of the routher has the WIFI default SSID and Password. (Change them)
IP Config/all may give you misleading information when you are connected straight to the modem.
A "what is my IP" Google search will give you your current (public) IP address. They have good DNS too, but google cant help you input these values, in this situation.
!!!This question is misleading. Stating that you have an "active internet" connections implies the modem is using DHCP.
